WILLIAM A. MAC MILLAN III December 20, 1945---April 11, 2021 William A. Mac Millan III (Bill) was born to William and Vera Mac Millan in Newark, New Jersey. At the age of 3 he moved with his parents and older sister, Vera Jean, to California. They made their home in Yucaipa where Bill attended school in Dunlap Acres and Yucaipa. Bill graduated from Yucaipa High School with the Class of ’63. He was the drum major for the marching band marching in many parades. When he wasn’t leading the band he was enjoying sports particularly baseball from Little League through the Colt League, and on through high school. Bill married Sheri Watson and to this marriage a daughter, Laurie Jean, was born. Sheri died in the fall of 1969, and Bill continued with his work with Metropolitan Water District which had begun in 1964 at Gene Camp, then to the plant in La Verne, and finally he transferred to Lake Skinner. He finished 33 years as Assistant Superintendent in charge of operations from Indio to Fallbrook. He married Martha (Marty) Smalley in 1971 and they created two ranches, one in the Diamond Valley prior to the beginning of Diamond Valley Lake and the other in the Sky Mesa area. Each brought a great deal of joy to him. He was active in the Winchester Harvesters 4-H Club with special projects as well as with the Sky Mesa Property Owners Board. He enjoyed driving his tractor, Polaris, and motorhome. His special enjoyment was working with wood making a host of projects, large and small. He is survived by his wife, Marty; daughter, Laurie; sister, Vera Jean; two granddaughters, Cassandra and Carissa; a grandson, Ryan; and a great granddaughter, Levi Rose. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation to the City of Hope would be appreciated.
