Imogene Green
April 26, 1933 - March 18, 2022
Imogene Green, a long-time resident of Perris, California, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2022, at the age of 88. Imogene, called Jean by her family and friends, was born on April 26, 1933, to Nadiel Edwards and Jim Carey in Mooringsport, Louisiana. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, Jean returned to Mooringsport to help her mother care for her younger siblings. In 1956, Jean’s mother encouraged her to leave home and go west. Jean moved to Hawthorne, Nevada to live with her cousin. There she met Charles E. Green, and they fell in love and wed on June 9, 1957. To this union they added six children, Charles Jr. and Hazel, from Charles’ prior marriage, Harold, Janie, Gordon and James. Jean and Charles loved having a family so much that they added more children, Abraham Jr., Lillie, and Geraldine Renee. In 1965, Jean and Charles moved the family to Perris. Jean initially found domestic work in private homes. She briefly worked for a local mobile home manufacturer before returning to work as a Home Health Aide. Her calm demeanor, kind heart and intelligence led the Visiting Nurses Association to promote Jean to Home Health Aide Supervisor. Jean recruited, trained, supervised, and mothered countless Home Health Aides throughout the Southwestern Inland Empire. She retired from Addus Home Health Care after serving more than 30 years in the home health industry. Jean united with Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church upon relocating to Perris. She remained an active member until her death, serving as President of the Usher Board, Church Secretary, and helping wherever needed. Jean was passionate about Bible study, and she loved the Lord with all her heart. She filled her home with warmth and kindness, and she welcomed everyone to come in for something to eat served with an encouraging word. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. Jean enjoyed 59 wonderful years with Charles before he went home to the Lord in 2016. Jean was predeceased by her mother, father and her devoted stepfather, Hursey Combs, her siblings: Bobby Carey, Maude Davis, Gladys Buckner, Lloyd Davis, Hursey Combs, Jr., Ola Bea Combs, Len Combs, Bessie Carey, Felix H. Carey, William E. Carey, Alberta Roberson, and John Carey, and her daughter Hazel Brandon. She is survived by her siblings: Herman Combs (Viola), Rose Walker, Marion Combs, Daisy Combs-Bell, Henrietta Carey, and Dolores Robertson; her children: Charles Green Jr. (Kimberly), Harold Green, Janie White (John), Gordon Green (Febelyn), James Green, Abraham Samuels Jr., Lillie Samuels, and Geraldine Renee Calloway. Her legacy will also live on in her 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her two great-great grandchildren, and in the whole host of her cousins, nieces, nephews, in-loves, family and friends. Flowers can be sent to Miller-Jones Mortuary at 1835 N. Perris Blvd, Perris, CA 92571. On April 14, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, there will be a Quiet Hour at the mortuary. On April 15, 2022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life officiated by Bishop Corey Ruffin at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 22876 Mountain Ave, Perris, CA 92570. The church will open at 9:00 am for viewing, and interment will follow the Life Celebration service at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518. Please consider giving to Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church or supporting local ministry, as spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ was very important to Jean.
